TRASH Fashion Special – The Monthly talks to singer, Holly Nadine – Part 2 – Working on producing original material

Are you still working as a nurse?

I am doing bank nursing at the moment where I just pick up shifts, but I am hoping to go back to Queen’s in September to do my teaching degree. I have been working as a Special Needs Classroom Assistant to get classroom experience for the last couple of years.

As well as working you have gone on to produce original material?

Yes. I am writing and I would like to eventually bring out an album. I am a bit of a perfectionist so I have to fight to stay with things. I do tend to work on songs and then not quite finish them and move on to something else, so I am trying to make sure that I finish songs and write enough for an album’s worth of material.

I am working closely with a company in Toronto. A few years ago a man called Roy Hamilton, a music producer in Toronto, Canada, contacted me. He had seen one of my videos on Facebook and he wanted to work with me. He wanted to sign me on for a year to work on some songs.

What happened after that?

Me and my dad went to Toronto in 2023 and we met with Roy and his team and we recorded “Holding on Tight” in Toronto. I’m still in close contact with him and we are working on a new song at the minute. It’s very upbeat, quite different and very exciting.

And what are you performing at TRASH Fashion?

I’m going to be using backing tracks and singing, but I will definitely be performing my song, “Holding on Tight”.

And finally, where to now?

My partner is from Canada, and we were visiting there is the summer so I am hoping to get back there and hopefully record this new song. It has a real summer vibe so if we can get it out for the summer that would be great.

The one thing I want to say is how much support my family has given me throughout my career. My dad is my biggest fan and he comes to all my gigs, he’s always there in the front row, and my family has helped me financially. Their support has been incredible and I couldn’t have done it without that support.
