Working in community arts is rewarding and I recall the first TRASH Fashion event I was asked to document at Belfast City Hall. The smiles, laughter and yes, tears, stick in my mind. Two months of workshops culminating in a catwalk fashion show in City Hall will, I’m sure, remain in all the participants minds for a lifetime.
The value of sharing skills and knowledge via community arts projects must not be underestimated. TRASH Fashion is an invaluable project which opens people’s minds to the power of re-imagining and repurposing what is often discarded by society. We should do more.
