ABC Council – Draft Heritage Strategy: Public Consultation – closing 16 Mar 2026

Overview

“We are inviting those who live, visit, work, study and invest in our Borough or have an interest in heritage to complete the survey to give us your feedback on the draft Heritage Strategy.

The Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Heritage Strategy is a new strategy which aims to have joined-up leadership for heritage; with communities, partners and ABC Council working together. The result will be better places to live, work and visit; with buildings, parks and landscape maintained, reused, and brought back to life. It will also mean wider participation, where volunteers are supported, young people are engaged, and a broader range of inclusive stories are shared.

This draft Heritage Strategy will help protect, enhance and celebrate our Borough’s unique heritage. The successful delivery of this strategy will depend on a collaborative approach involving our residents, community organisations, and businesses working together and take ownership of their heritage. The strategy identifies a series of strategically aligned objectives and actions to support heritage in all its forms; Built, Natural and Cultural, all of which were developed from feedback received during initial engagement and consultation.

The development of this strategy has been made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the Heritage Places Strategic Initiative. In October 2023, Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough was announced as one of the first nine of up to 20 places across the UK to be a designated Heritage Place. This designation is a real opportunity to take a long-term strategic heritage-led approach to placemaking.”
