The MAC is excited to welcome people back to the galleries as the organisation reopened today with three new exhibitions across three distinct practices. Michelle Williams Gamaker, Kwok Tsui and Dawn Richardson and Chad Alexander’s works trace how race, belonging, identity, and community are constructed, obscured, and reimagined:
Michelle William Gamaker: Strange Evidence | Upper Gallery
Michelle Williams Gamaker revisits the life of Merle Oberon to expose the racial politics of early cinema and examines how Oberon’s mixed heritage was erased under the pressures of Hollywood’s racial hierarchies.
Kwok Tsui: Many Moons Ago | Tall Gallery
Kwok Tsui’s practice is an autobiographical exploration of his experience as an immigrant, examining themes of displacement and diasporic existence through painting.
Dawn Richardson & Chad Alexander: Dungannon Tropicana | Sunken Gallery
A former Irish National Foresters club in Dungannon, County Tyrone, transforms into a multicultural community hub, revealing the untold stories of a town shaped by migration, identity, rumours, and chicken.
