Chaos Stadt (Chaos City) is an amalgamation of almost a decade’s worth of photographic work. Starting in Berlin, where Conall lived for almost seven years, he delved into the city’s self-destructive, contradictory, and occasionally violent nature, getting a glimpse into the reality of the nation’s capital by integrating himself deeply within the underground and subculture scene.
This is a photographic theme that would continue as Conall travelled around the world, especially to places like Paris, Belfast, and Kyiv, where he worked as a photojournalist.
The collection of photographs taken over the years has been made into a zine series (Chaos Stadt), with each issue focusing on a particular city. So far, there have been three editions, with Belfast being the latest issue. In it, Conall delves into a sense of self-discovery within a society still living in the shadow of conflict, and a place he used to call home. A Kyiv edition of the zine is currently being worked on. In addition to this, there are plans for the whole series to eventually be turned into a photobook.

Artist Biography
Conall Kearney is an Emmy Award–winning Irish video and photojournalist specialising in conflict and frontline reporting. His work focuses on documenting the human impact of political unrest and war, often from within rapidly evolving and hostile environments. He has extensively covered civil unrest and protest movements across Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Berlin and beyond.
Currently based in Kyiv, his work has a particular focus on frontline regions and military life. His work continues to explore the realities of conflict on both soldiers and civilians, aiming to provide a personal, ground-level insight into the consequences and advancements of modern warfare.
