Resilience: Past, Present and Future – 2 to 16 Sept (Limited Run)

This intergenerational project brought together the Highfield Community Centre Women’s Group and R‑City Youth, organised by the Ashton Centre, around the shared theme of Resilience.

In the first session at Highfield, members from both groups paired up, learned to use DSLR cameras, and collaboratively shaped the project by selecting iconic Belfast locations that embodied their theme.

The following week, they set off by minibus on a photographic journey to those chosen sites, the Titanic Centre, Stormont, Queen’s University, and Belfast Castle, capturing images of themselves that expressed empowerment and resilience in their own lives.

During the final session, the group returned to Highfield Community Centre to create mixed‑media collages using coloured markers, archival photographs from the Belfast Exposed collection, and their own images from the site visits.

These collages, along with a selection of photographs from across the project, will be on display in Street View from Wednesday 2nd September until Wednesday 16th September.
