‘burr’
1. A whirring sound, such as a phone ringing, or the sound of cogs turning.
2. A rough edge or ridge left on an object, especially of metal, by the action of a tool or machine.
BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! is a new, transdisciplinary body of work by Reuben Brown, developed over the course of his Master of Research (MRes) in Fine Art By Practice at the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. The research, Club [Construction]: Evidence, Ephemera and the Temporary Architectures of Queer Nightlife, interrogates the queer club-space as a site of counter-cultural archiving, asking how absence and fragmentation might become productive material, and what this, in turn, might reveal about the complexity and multiplicity of queer experience in Ireland, alongside the precarious state of cultural infrastructure across the island.
