The Colour of Peace
Poem for Ireland Peace Conference
Girl 1:
The colour of peace is Red
like the blood that flows from our veins
When it’s flowing through the streets
Girl 2:
Peace is black,
Like gun powder
Fueling weapons
To blow up our homes
Girl 1:
The colour of peace is blue
Like the bruises on our shoulders
When were beat for crossing the wrong street
Girl 2:
Blue like the tears falling from our faces
When we don’t understand why
Girl 1:
Peace is silver like the bells ringing during Mass
Girl 2:
White like the pages of Protestant hymnals
Both: The colour off peace is the colour of my flesh
The strength of my bones
The dreams that I have
The colour of the blood in my veins
Is the same
As hers
