Mid Ulster District Council – Heritage Readiness Grant Programme 2026/27 – closing 23 Nov

The Mid Ulster District Council area contains some of the richest archaeological and historical heritage sites in Northern Ireland, as well as a rich cultural heritage including place and townland names, folklore, traditions, language and local heritage knowledge.

Council’s Corporate Plan includes a priority “to stimulate interest in, and preserve, our local heritage, cultural history and local crafts”. The Heritage Readiness Grant Programmes a pilot project within the draft Mid Ulster Heritage Strategy.

Many heritage projects need professional studies and plans before a major funder will consider them. A funder such as the National Lottery Heritage Fund or the Historic Environment Division will often ask for a condition survey, a business plan or a conservation plan as part of an application. This programme helps applicants to access grant aid for that preparatory work.

The aim of the programme is to help owners and custodians of heritage in the Mid Ulster District to get ready to apply for major heritage funding.

The objectives of the programme are:

  1. To pay for the professional studies, surveys and plans that major funders require.
  2. To help heritage buildings and sites to be brought back into use, for the benefit of the wider community, town, village or area.
  3. To increase the number and quality of applications from the Mid Ulster District to major heritage funders.
  4. To increase understanding of the condition, significance and potential of local heritage.
