Community Arts Partnership is delighted to be hosting The National Gallery’s Bicentennial celebration, The Art Road Trip

The National Gallery is one of the greatest art galleries in the world.

Founded by Parliament in 1824, the Gallery houses the nation’s collection of paintings in the Western European tradition from the late 13th to the early 20th century. The collection includes works by Cézanne, Degas, Leonardo, Monet, Raphael, Rembrandt, Rubens, Titian, Turner and Van Gogh.
The Gallery’s key objectives are to enhance the collection, care for the collection and provide the best possible access to visitors

NG200: the Gallery’s Bicentenary

On 10 May 2024 the National Gallery will be 200 years old, marking two centuries of bringing people and paintings together. For the entire year, the Gallery will celebrate its past and look forward to the future with a year-long festival of art, creativity and imagination which sets the tone for the third century.

The Gallery will stage an ambitious programme of events and exhibitions that extends from the Gallery into Trafalgar Square, across the nation, and to the world through a series of online and virtual experiences. More information about the Gallery’s Bicentenary plans can be found at the National Gallery website below.

Art Road Trip

Our national activity continues with our travelling art studio programme, Art Road Trip – a programme of activities and events that celebrate creativity and the arts.

From May 2024 to May 2025, Art Road Trip will visit 18 locations across the UK and work with 24 local arts organisations. Our partners work closely with their local communities to deliver inspiring and successful community-led arts projects.

In each location, we’ll create events that match the needs of the community and that champion the creativity of people with the least access to creative opportunities and the arts. Our mobile art studio will host over 200 creative public events and work with 40,000 people to bring art and ideas inspired by the National Gallery Collection to the heart of their communities.

Together with our partners, we have defined the following project outcomes:

  • Introduce new audiences to art, the National Gallery and their local/ regional museums and galleries
  • Work with principals of co-design and co-creation to support existing local initiatives by working in partnership with communities to make a positive difference through the arts
  • Deliver a programme of memorable experiences of high-quality artistic outcomes for individuals and audiences
  • Increased local pride
  • Create long-term local, regional and national partnerships with The National Gallery
  • Learning and training opportunities for participants and community partners
